Fair trade fabrics
A lot of the fabric for my lamps comes from clothing my kids have outgrown or that is now unwearable. It is very satisfying to turn the usable pieces into something new. The picture below shows my family in a sewing workshop in Ghana trying on our newly made clothes. They were made to measure using fair trade batik cloth. I still wear the green shirt so that will not be a lamp any time soon, but the kids are now both nearly 6ft tall! I think of our friends in Ghana whenever I turn on a lamp made with their fabric.
