Slithering Snake Automata

Making this snake automata took about a month! There are more than 500 laser-cut pieces in each of the two snakes. I haven’t counted the pieces in the mechanism and box! Every scale is hand painted with several coats of acrylic and then sealed. I made the eyes by printing my design on resin coated paper, painting them and then covering them with UV resin. The decorations are made from preserved moss (some of which I collected and preserved myself), lichen, shelf mushrooms, pebbles and more. I made this one for myself, but I can make them on commission. Contact me if interested. The snake on the bottom and the snake egg can be taken out and posed or played with. This piece was adapted from a design I purchased on Etsy from the very talented Ross McSweeney (sales of the physical model are permitted under the terms of the license). Ross has been a huge inspiration to me and I have learned so much from building his designs. I aspire to make more automata and his designs feel like a master class to me.
