This white-over-white owl “hidden creature” lamp comes to life when the sun goes down. The owl is “hidden” until you turn on the lamp. The 4 inch by 10 inch size makes it perfect for small shelves, tables or vanities. It works beautifully as a nightlight or accent lamp. I can make the lamp in almost any color so just let me know if you want a color that is not listed.[br]
To make these lamps, I started with an original ink drawing of an owl in the hollow of an oak tree with leaves and acorns. I transformed the drawing into a vinyl cutout inspired by paper cuts and shadow puppets. I then attach the cutout to a heat and flame resistant liner and cover it with fine Japanese shoji paper. The shoji paper partially hides the owl, tree and leaves when the lamp is off and adds a lovely glow to the cutout areas when the lamp is on. The paper is made from renewable mulberry bark that is harvested without harming the trees. This type of paper has been valued for centuries in Japan because of the way it diffuses light. I make the lamp bases from wood. They have small tile feet that provide clearance for the cord.[br]
